Ugg boot man bids a sad goodbye
Customers who have been looking out for the Ugg Boot and Seat Cover Man - David Aylett - will be saddened to learn he will not be returning to the Pilbara with his business.
Mr Aylett, 70, who is known in the region for the truck from which he would sell his wares, said he had fielded many calls from customers in the area but had to inform them that, because of his illness, he would not be returning north.
He said his doctor and cardiologist would not let him leave Perth for the time being.
"I had heart failure and the doctor said I needed to unload the business," he said.
"I used to drive between Newman and Perth and up to the Pilbara, but my concentration and endurance is buggered … I have Type 2 diabetes as well and I can't see as well as I used to."
Mr Aylett said he had fond memories of driving around selling Ugg Boots and seat covers and met many nice people in the Pilbara.
He struggled for words when asked what he would like to say to his Pilbara customers.
"Well, it has been really great dealing with people up there," he said.
"I hope all is going well.
"It has been a great business - I'm so sad … I never expected it would be like this."
Mr Aylett, who at times struggled to talk, sent a more upbeat email to the North West Telegraph after the phone call.
In it he wrote: "I would like to tell them a heartfelt thanks for their patronage".
