Cricket fans have been left perplexed after former England cricketer turned commentator appeared to call Indian star Jasprit Bumrah a “primate”.

Bumrah has been the star for India this series, destroying Australia in the West Test, with the fast bowler taking eight wickets in a monster 295-run win.

There was mystery around his fitness heading into the third Test in Brisbane with a groin injury flaring up in Adelaide, but he played and starred with the big wickets of Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney on Sunday morning.

Speaking on Fox Cricket about Bumrah’s importance, Guha said: “He’s the MVP, isn’t he. The Most Valuable Primate. Jasprit Bumrah, he is the one that is going to do all the talking for India and why so much focus was on him in the build up to this Test match and whether he would be fit.”

The comments raised the eyebrows of fans on social media who quested the description made by the experienced commentator.

Guha’s comments were not responded to by fellow commentator Brett Lee, who seemingly scoffed at the comment.

A former fast bowler, Guha took more than 100 wickets in 83 One Day Internationals and 29 wickets in eight Test matches.

It came as Australia dominated the second day of the third Test, with star batter Travis Head smashing a second consecutive century.
