Bruce's Blackpool, Burton bundled out of English FA Cup
National League Tamworth have moved into the FA Cup third round at the expense of League One Burton Albion after triumphing on penalties at the Pirelli Stadium following a 1-1 draw.
With the contest having been goalless after 90 minutes, the hosts then went in front early in extra time through Mason Bennett, only for Tamworth to hit back two minutes later via Ronan Maher.
The subsequent shootout then saw Lambs goalkeeper Jas Singh save from Danilo Orsi and Ben Whitfield before Haydn Hollis fired in the winning kick as Tamworth won 4-3.
Harborough, of the Southern League Premier Division Central, battled impressively at 10-man Reading before bowing out 5-3 after extra time.
Town led 2-1 at the interval before goals from Charlie Savage and Adrian Akande subsequently put the League One side 3-2 up. They then had Abraham Kanu sent off and Kai Tonga equalised in the 86th minute to force extra time.
Chem Campbell then struck twice early on in the additional period to send Reading through.
Steve Bruce's Blackpool were beaten 2-1 at home by his old club Birmingham City at Bloomfield Road, where Gold Coast-born Scottish international Lyndon Dykes and Lukas Jutkiewicz scored for the visitors in the first half before Jordan Rhodes pulled a goal back after the break.
Billy Sharp spared Doncaster Rovers' blushes as the veteran forward's brace saw them come from behind to win 2-1 after extra time at Kettering, Harborough's fellow seventh-tier outfit.
League Two new boys Bromley will play in the third round for the first time in their history after fighting back to beat Solihull Moors 2-1 at Damson Park in a replay of last season's National League play-off final.
