A shortened regatta season may come as a welcome relief to others in the Independent Girls Schools Sports Association as PLC look to complete their dominance at this weekend’s IGSSA WA Head of the River.

PLC, MLC, John XXIII, Penrhos, Perth College, St Hilda’s and newcomers Iona will go head-to-head on the waters of Champion Lakes as they look to be crowned Head of the River champions.

The closure of Champion Lakes due to excessive rainfall restricted the season to just three lead-up regattas but a fourth regatta would have likely only further cemented PLC as the runaway crew to beat this weekend.

They have been utterly dominant with their first eight crew yet to taste defeat despite the best efforts of St Hilda’s who have been forced to settle for second with Perth College and MLC squabbling for the final places.

Their success has not been top-heavy with PLC dominating throughout all senior categories and their year-10 squads to have a firm grip on the Champion School title ahead of St Hilda’s.

A victory for PLC on Saturday would be a 9th consecutive head of the river and 12th overall consecutive triumph while their already healthy points lead would likely see them take home the Champion School Trophy to tie with Penrhos’ record for 14 titles.

Racing at the Head of the River 2024 will start at 8.30am on Saturday 22 June – kicking off with the Old Scholars Event with every event to be streamed live on Streamer.
