The Liberal candidate for Geraldton has promised to build a dedicated home for cricket in the Mid West if his party succeeds at the 2025 State election.
The Liberals have put $1.5 million towards building a hub for cricket, including a dedicated function space, storage area, and displays for memorabilia.
According to the party, it would work closely with the Geraldton Regional Cricket Board to deliver the project, with the space set to be a central space for local cricket to help add to the strong success seen in the region.
Last month, Geraldton’s A-grade men’s grade and both women’s grades won their respective country week cricket tournaments.
Liberal candidate Tim Milnes said the region had long been waiting for a built-for-purpose area for cricket.
“For too long, our cricketing community has lacked a dedicated space to call home,” he said.
“With the sport expanding across the region — particularly with the rise of new women’s and youth teams — it’s time we invested in a facility that will support its future.”
“Geraldton and the greater Mid West has a proud cricketing history, with local players excelling at all levels.
“Cricket has long been a part of the fabric of our sporting community, and this investment will ensure the next generation of cricketers has the facilities they need to develop their skills, host events, and continue the region’s strong sporting legacy.”
The Liberal party says a location for the cricketing hub has not yet been finalised, and the decision would be made with the Geraldton Regional Cricket Board to ensure the facility meets local demand.
