Ambulance officers in Hedland will have a new place to call home soon after a long-awaited funding announcement for a new sub centre.

Federal Member for Durack Melissa Price last week announced the new $1.7 million St John Ambulance Port Hedland sub centre would become a reality after receiving funding in round three of the National Stronger Regions Fund.

Ms Price said it was brilliant news for Port Hedland and would go towards making the town an even better place to live.

“This project will cater for an increased need for ambulance services in the area and build a more resilient community with improved access to first aid training and equipment,” she said.

St John Ambulance WA North West regional manager Andrew Graffen said the announcement was great news for Hedland, and architects would now progress with designs.

Regional Development Minister Fiona Nash said the local projects funded under the stronger regions fund made a huge difference to communities.

“I aim to help build the kinds of communities our children and grandchildren either want to stay in or come back to, and quality local infrastructure is a big part of that,” she said.

“Whether it’s cultural and healthcare facilities, tourism infrastructure or a great sports precinct, I’m proud to be delivering to Durack.

“Only the very best (applications) were successful.”
