A four-car crash in the Graham Farmer Freeway tunnel has sparked chaos for peak-hour commuters on Wednesday morning.

The crash happened around 7.30am inside the tunnel heading west, with the left lane blocked and traffic banked up on the freeway and surrounding roads.

Firefighters, WA Police and St John ambulance rushed to the scene before the vehicles were cleared by 8.35am.

As a result of the crash, traffic remained heavy through to Leach Highway.

It is not believed anybody has been seriously injured.

Main Roads has urge peak-hour commuters to take care with the area heavily congested.
